Here's one you don't see everyday.... an Ovation Breadwinner! These funky looking Axe's... look just like well... look like an Axe! This funky Ovation offset was dubbed the Breadwinner in a rare tan finish with tortoise shell pickguard, one of the cooler guitar shapes, and name ever thought up! Please see photos for details, there a few little nicks and bumps accumulated from over the years, including a small crack in the upper corner of the pickguard, some oxidation on the neck pick up cover, and some minor scratches on the back of the body and the top of the peg head. She weighs in at 7lbs 13oz on our scale, and has 1-11/16" nut width. The neck is a slightly slimmer C neck profile compared to many, many slim C's we've had the pleasure of playing over the years. Very racey feeling, a fast playing neck indeed we really like the feel on this one!
The Breadwinner (model 1251-5) has an unusual ergonomic body made of mahogany and shaped something like a hatchet although according to the designer this is partly by accident. The model was produced from 1972 to 1979. The first version ('72-'75) used 2 toroidal single-pole pickups, then subsequent models were fitted with mini-humbucker pickups. They all had 1 volume and 1 tone control, and a three way pickup selector and a mid-range cut switch - these were one of the first (if not THE first) guitars to come equipped with an active FET preamp on board. The active electronics allowed guitarists to get a very wide range of sounds out of the guitar.
These Breadwinners were coated in Kaman Industries' "LyraChord" material and were available in a number of colors including Blue, White, Black, Tan, Gray, and Red. This one is Tan, and looks fantastic! These Ovation guitars are remarkably ergonomic, well-balanced when standing and cradling comfortably on the knee if you preferred to sit. This is a wonderful guitar that feels amazing to play, and your sure to attract a lot of attention and get asked a lot of questions when taking this breadwinner out to jam with friends, or while performing at a gig. So who's looking to add a very unique and interesting shredder of a guitar!? We got ya covered right here with the Bread Winner!
