Pickup Swaps & Electronics Repair

From time to time electric guitar pickups will stop functioning properly or just up and die for no apparent reason at all (it could be all the years of sweaty nightclubs and beer that’s been spilled on your guitar). Whatever the case, it’s time to swap the pickups out.

Or maybe you just want to freshen up your electric guitar tone to adjust to a new or different playing style. A new set of Seymour Duncan, Suhr, or Lindy Fralin pickups can take your tone to the next level and then some.

On average, you can expect to pay between $120 to $175 on most electric guitar pickup set installations (depending on cost of the pickups). Installations of pickups in semi hollow body and archtop guitars are more involved and are generally in the $240 range.

Questions To Ask Before Swapping Out Pickups:

  • What style of music do you want to use this guitar for?
  • Are the pickups suited to that style? Tex-Mex single coils are very different from high gain active EMG humbuckers, and will not pair well with certain amps or playing styles.
  • What is your playing style? Do you wring every last drop from each note or do you have a lighter touch?
  • Do you want the ability to use a coil tap? This is when a double coil pickup is split to operate as a single coil, usually via a push-pull knob on your existing control knobs.
  • Do you wish you could get more sounds from your guitar, not just a different one?
  • What kind of amp(s) and/or pedal(s) do you most commonly use with this guitar?
