This guitar is likely to have been built in the 1870's based off of the gathering of available information we could find, and checking the build specs and identifying markers closely. Early Martin guitars are stamped "C.F. Martin, New York" in all three places. Beginning in 1867, the year Martin took on partners and incorporated, the headstock stamp remained the same, but the inside center strip stamp read "C.F. Martin & Co., New York", and neck block stamp followed shortly thereafter. This Martin parlor is of the "New York" era as can be seen in the photo's. She sports the Red/White/Green herringbone rosette and back stripe AKA "Christmas Tree Herringbone" as it's occasionally referred by.

This is a one family owned guitar, that has been handed down each generation, and because of that we are able to inquire about a few things that otherwise might be left as a mystery if not for their friendly communication. The neck has been replaced in the early 90's with build that's similar to/ pays homage to the look and feel of the original. We were told that the work was done by a Martin Authorized repair shop called Candelas Guitars in Los Angeles. They are still an operational shop, and perhaps if one wanted to reach out someone there might be able to add some additional insight if they were interested to know. We don't have any reason to dispute what the family who owns it told us, so our shop didn't personally contact the Candelas's plus the work was done some 30-ish years.... and it's likely not much more insight/ if any could be gathered.

The bridge has also been replaced at sometime with a period correct style ebony pyramid bridge we are told it was most likely done professionally at the aforementioned shop who made the neck. New tuners just installed 'Golden Age Restoration Tuners' from StewMac. The reason for the replacement tuners is that the buttons are very old and appear brittle and could possibly crack/ break if tuned up to pitch. Original tuners in the case pocket. This guitar has had all the necessary work need to be playable without any concern, and ready to make great music again for another 150+ years!
