EXCELLENT condition! We list this guitar as excellent and it's certainly that! Some people list guitars like this condition and call it "Mint"..... well that can be a slippery slope, as even a lot of "Brand New" gear isn't "Mint" under close inspection its often easy to find a minor blemish or small hairline imperfection.
So with all honesty, we are pleased to offer this beautiful example of a Mark Campellone Deluxe 17" from 1998 in excellent condition that has opened up exquisitely and would be a dream guitar for many a Jazz player looking for "THAT" guitar which has the looks, the tone, and playability to be "THE" guitar they've been looking for!
It is expected that a first-class luthier will excel at the fundamentals of the craft: joinery, voicing, fit and finish. But Mark Campellone is that rarest of builders who succeeds where so many of his peers fall short, in the crucial dimension of design, and build quality. Simply put, all of Mark's instruments are beautiful, as pleasing to behold as they are to play. Simple, tasteful, with understated elegance, Campellone guitars draw from the heart of traditional styling, updated with bold, modern flair.
Handmade at his Rhode Island workshop, the Campellone Deluxe is a full depth Venetian cutaway guitar in the classic L-5 tradition, carved of bookmatched tiger flame maple, with a hand-graduated tap-tuned Sitka spruce top. The back shows impeccably bookmatched tiger flame figure, and the neck is criscrossed with rollers of barber-pole flame. With it's finely carved, X-braced braced top, the Campellone Deluxe is a true acoustic guitar, rich and warm with depth, focus, and an even response along the entire scale. We've always been impressed with the consistency of Mark's guitars, but the acoustic voice of this particular instrument truly has that something extra: an open, vibrant quality that rivals some of the finer models of the classic era.
The neck profile has a fine gentle D profile, easy in the had, with fine medium frets over a fingerboard of solid black ebony. The guitar is amplified with a Kent Armstrong humbucking pickup, floating from the hand-bound tortoise pickguard. A final touch is the original art-deco styled tailpiece, hand inlaid with a gorgeous abalone rose. Finally, we salute Mark on his commitment to keeping his instruments affordable to the working player. We can think of few other makers today who deliver so much quality so reasonably, or attractively. Not surprisingly, value like this has generated quite a backlog.
