From the idea conceived by the late Stephen Bruton, designed by his friend Eric Schoenberg, and built by luthier Randall Kramer, the Schoenberg Quartet Stephen Bruton model brings together classic, pre-war guitar traditions, cutting edge luthiery technology, and the scientific method of Chladni plate resonant frequency tuning, which was used by nineteenth-century violin makers.

In creating the Quartet body, Eric essentially reversed the process Martin used when it switched most of its models from neck/body joints at the 12th fret to necks with 14 frets clear of the body in the early 1930s. While Martin shortened the bodies and modified the upper bouts of 0, 00, 000, and dreadnought bodies, Eric took the 16-inch-wide 0000/M-style body (which wasn't introduced as a flattop model until the 1970s and has traditionally been a 14-fret design) and stretched it to give it an outline similar to a 12-fret 000, but with a slightly larger size. In the video demo Quartet includes a fairly deep cutaway, giving it more of a contemporary vibe and creating easy access to the highest regions of the fingerboard. One integral element of the Schoenberg Soloist is its relatively wide string-spacing of 2-3/8 inches at the saddle (similar to vintage OMs), and this is true of the Quartet as well. On this guitar, it's matched with a nut-width of 1-13/16 inches, and its relatively shallow neck profile provides a feel not unlike that of a classical guitar.

Built out of Italian spruce and Hawaiian Koa, this model is our "Grand Piano": extremely rich and deep as well as sweet and clean. This body style gives a more responsive and clear tone than the usual big deep-bodied guitar. The build is by Randall Kramer of Truckee, CA, and it's a fine example of his impeccable skill and craftsmanship. The koa/spruce combination in our 12-fret guitars has proven to be particularly successful, and the Quartet adds another whole dimension to its wonders.

In the embedded YouTube video is a detailed review and audio demonstration from Peghead Nation and performed by Teja Gerken. It is the exact same guitar that we are offering here on Reverb, they were the first to sell the guitar, and it's looking for a great new home. One thing you might notice in the video is that there is a pyramid bridge installed, and now it has a belly bridge. It's still the exact guitar, a previous owner had the bridge professionally swapped by luthier who built the guitar. The workmanship absolutely phenomenal, and visually there are no signs that ever was any different than how it's presented today.
